Tutorial: Mary Did You Know
In this piano tutorial well learn to play the Christmas song Mary Did You Know. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs on the piano. Even though this version features chords and text, it works very well as a piano solo. Here are a couple things to keep in mind when playing this piece:
- Pay close attention to the syncopations!
- Be sure that youre changing the pianos sustain pedal on every new chord.
- Shape the melody as if you were singing this text.
- In general, make a crescendo when the melody goes up and make a decrescendo when the melody goes down.
Hope you enjoy this tutorial!

Lyrics Mary Did You Know Christmas
That your baby boy would one day walk on water?Mary, did you knowThat your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?Did you knowThat your baby boy has come to make you new?And this child that youve deliveredWill soon deliver you
That your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?Mary, did you knowThat your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?Did you knowThat your baby boy has walked where angels trod? And when you kiss your little babyYouve kissed the face of GodOh, Mary, did you know?Mary, did you know?
