Lets Think About Mistakes

  • We think that we cant make any mistakes but the truth iswe have to expect them. At least in the beginning and for quite a while.
  • We are awful players because we keep making mistakes or make the same mistakes over and over againyet the truth is that every single pianist makes mistakes daily when they first start out. What it really means, is that you are learning.
  • Once we correct a mistake we wont ever make it againand while this is true for more advanced players, not so true for beginners. Read on to find out why!
    • We approach our playing with the basic attitude that says that we have to be good, we cant mess up, and if we do we owe some type of apology for it and then we make ourselves go all the way back to the beginningjust to start the same cycle over again.
  • Always starting from the beginning. If you always start at the beginning, youre learning the first part well because you play it the most, but the middle section will not sound as good simply because you arent playing them enough.
  • Playing a piece or exercise too fast. Trying to play a piece too fast causes all kinds of issues because not only do students miss notes and rhythms, they often dont hear other mistakes that are being made meaning that they cant be corrected if they arent noticed.

    Getting The Basics Down

Some parents are hesitant to teach their children basic music skills because they dont know where to begin. The good news is that you dont need to be a professional player to teach your child easy keyboard songs like the ones below. In fact, you dont need any musical experience to get started you can even learn alongside your child!

First off, youll need to learn the location of the notes on the piano. Start by finding C its the white key directly to the left of the group of two black keys. Using only the white keys, the notes continue in alphabetical order up to G, and then they restart at A.

You can label the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, and B with stickers to make it easier for your child. Most easy piano song notes will all fall on the white keys, so theres no need to worry about labeling sharps and flats just yet. Once youve found where these seven notes are, you and your kids can start learning basic piano songs!

Tip #4 How To Play Rock Chord Shapes In The Left Hand

There is another huge clue that these chords are showing you. And its all in the left hand. Figure it out yet?

Thats right! All the chords youre playing in your left hand are either just the root and 5th or just a single bass note.

The only exception to this observation is in .

    This chord is special.

is whats known as a slash chord. You are playing your 2nd inversion C chord in your right hand. And your left hand is just playing E as your bass note.

Give this one a try. Youll notice how adding that harmony note E in the bass adds extra flavor to the chord. Sounds great doesnt it?

From here you have a great foundation to start your practice on. Make sure youre practicing in small but daily regimens.

10 20 minute exercises everyday will benefit you far more than a 1 hour training session once every 2 weeks.

When The Beatles released the album Let It Be in 1970, they had actually already gone their separate ways. The album was pieced together by old recordings by producer Phil Spector, and since then, Paul McCartney in particular has been critical of how the album came to sound. However, this has not stopped millions of people from falling in love with the record, and especially its title track. The track has the character of a religious anthem, but is actually a tribute song to McCartneys mother who died when he was a young boy. It is one of the most beautiful Beatles songs, and an eternal favourite among pianists. In this article we teach you how to play the song.

A Bit About The Song And The Album Let It Be

Let It Be is the title of the last album released with The Beatles before the group disbanded. The album was released on May 8, 1970, but much of the material was recorded as early as January 1969, before the recording of Abbey Road, but as members were generally dissatisfied with the music, it was initially shelved.

In the spring of 1970, however, producer Phil Spector gained access to the bands, and he rearranged and reproduced some of the music, resulting in the album being released.

The album, which was finally released with more than a years delay, became a more complex case. Six of the tracks were live recordings without overdubs, of which the three tracks originated from the unannounced concert at the top of the Apple building, while the remaining three were recorded in one recording in the studio.

Five of the other tracks were now produced by Spector with overdubs and other features, but still based on the January recordings, and finally, Across the Universe was based on a recording back from 1968.

The album was released in a couple of versions, including one with an accompanying photo book with pictures from the film that had also been released.

As a musician Ive had no formal training.Im self taught but through working with guitarists in rock and pop bands, I have developed a deep understanding of chords and melody. For the last 10 years I’ve also worked solo as a piano vocalist as well. Still playing rock/pop but also crooning some beautiful old jazz songs too these days. In recent years I’ve travelled all around the world working on cruise ships and at international resort hotels.

Along the way I have had regularly had the privilege of mentoring and helping many musicians, giving them the opportunity to expand and develop their love of music and their music careers.

Art. Whilst still gigging and running a band to earn my keep, I studied for a degree in fine art at Lancaster university. Since then, I’ve exhibited locally and my paintings and prints consistently sell.

Music is my first love and it’s now my mission in life to help you, my fellow musician, to enjoy your gift in the fullest and most complete way.

I will teach you how to express yourself through singing and through your instrument in a simple effective way. This, and my other courses, will give you enjoyment and RESULTS.

Tip #: Are You Playing The Right Chord Shapes

Did you notice how some of the chords in this Let It Be piano tutorial are inverted? Did you pick up the fact that some of these chord voicings are played in 1st and 2nd inversion?

If not, lets break this down this together.

    Ex. 1 Right Hand

    • This is a C chord alright, just a 2nd inversion.
    • features this same inversion in the right hand.

    Ex. 2 Right Hand .

    • This is another C chord but this time in 1st inversion form.

    Lets keep moving forward.

    That Final Chorus Riff

The final moments of Let It Be conclude with a big descending motion, with triumphant organs and bombastic chords.

Its a pretty huge sounding moment, but its a lot simpler than it might sound on first listen.

Have you been keeping up with your chord inversion exercises? Theyll come in handy for a part like this. Here are the chords:

    F C F C G F C F C

What makes this section really sing are those chord inversions. Notice how as the keyboard pattern descends, it plays the same chords but in lower inversions.

So, even though there are only three chords in this section, the motions created by the chord inversions give the progression melodic movement.
