What Is An Arpeggio
An arpeggio is also referred to as a broken chord. You can think of it as a chord where all the notes are played individually rather than at the same time. The word arpeggio comes from the word arpeggiare, which means to play on a harp in Italian.
For example, If you were to play a C major chord, youd use the notes C, E, and G. Rather than pressing all the keys down at once, you would play the C, then the E, and then G. While arpeggios are often played in ascending or descending order, you could also mix up the order of the notes, playing the E, then C, then G, and so on.
In arpeggios, notes are often played in a pattern that follows the rhythm in a piece of music. Often, theyll be played with the left hand on the piano. Sometimes, they span multiple octaves and youll use both hands to play an arpeggio. In some cases they may even make up the melody of the music.

Taking It To The Next Level
As humans, we are creative beings, and there may come a time where you want to take your musical knowledge in a new direction.
You could, as Hozier apparently did, go to a quiet part of the house and write some astonishing, fresh songs. Or, if youre not a songwriter, you could take songs that have already been written and find a new and interesting way of playing them.
Heres a great idea from Chase Holfender, where he takes a song written in a major key and arranges it in a minor key.
A few years ago, I had the idea of taking hard rock songs and playing them in the style of lounge jazz. A friend mentioned Richard Cheese had done that. Heres an example.
I also came across the channel for vkgoeswild a classically trained pianist who does brilliant covers of well-known rock songs for solo piano. Like this:
I also discovered Postmodern Jukebox before it became absolutely massive. Heres one of my favourites, but all the videos are good.
With the Covid-19 lockdown, I finally started looking seriously at my idea. The first track I tackled is Smoke on the water and this is where I am with it so far. I hope it amuses you as much as it does me.

The New And Amazing Sustain Pedal
A sustain pedal is very useful to play any piano. And we have included it in our virtual piano. While the sustain pedal is pressed, the notes will keep ringing, even if you release the keys. Once you release the sustain pedal, the notes that were released will stop. Most piano songs use a sustain pedal.
PRO TIP: You can assign a computer key to enable and disable the sustain pedal.

Can you learn piano without a teacher / learn piano alone?
So, I covered this a little bit in the previous section but let me take it a bit further. I started with a piano teacher. His name was Ben Camp. He is the best there is by the way. Ben and I did the lesson thing for four years. Then one day we decided that the method and way he was teaching me could be converted to an online scenario. We then created Learn Keys By Ben.

How Do You Learn Piano Chords
Learning to play piano chords begins with exploring the instrument. Press multiple keys down at the same time and listen to how they sound when played together.
In some instances the sound will be pleasant. Other times, the sound may be dissonant. What youre doing in this moment is creating different harmonies.
In theory, learning piano chords starts with understanding intervals. Intervals represent a difference in pitch between two notes.
For example, if you play the note C on a piano, the black key to the right, C, is considered a half step up. The next white key to the right, D, is considered a whole step up from C.
These steps in certain sequences start to make up scales. For example, a major scale starting with C would follow this sequence:
Every major scale follows this same sequence of whole and half steps. Once you understand the notes in that sequence, you can start to pick out specific notes from the scale to play chords.

Online piano lessons work in easy-to-navigate ways. If the piano learning app you have chosen seems difficult to navigate, there is something wrong. Piano learning apps are so easy to use that anyone can learn with them.
The most common way online piano lessons work is that students progress through a structured curriculum designed by professional musicians and educators. The lessons can be repeated as many times as you wish and the material is presented clearly and neatly.

How To Really Learn A Song On The Piano
If you want me to be your piano teacher, I will ask you what song you want to learn. It doesnt matter how difficult it is, we will work with it and the song will teach us how to play it.
The first thing I will do is learn the song myself. The method I use, and which I will teach you, goes like this:
- Learn the melody in the right hand by playing along to the song on . ” rel=”nofollow”> key the song is in, and we can look at the scale for that key later.) has a great function where you can play videos at slower speeds. This gives you more time to work out the tune. To play the melody smoothly, we have to decide which fingers to use so we dont strain our hands.
- While learning the melody, we start to notice the bass part. So we learn that next, in the left hand.
- With the melody and the bass, we can be pretty sure what the chords are, and we know the song structure . We check a couple of websites to see if were right . Then we choose other notes to play in the right hand, to make the song more interesting. Depending on the size of your hands and how strong they are, we will find a way of playing the song that works for you and sounds the same or even better than the original.
- We write down the chords, as a reminder to us and for other musicians who want to play along with us.
- Then we start thinking about the next song to learn.
