These instruments have volume control and that is extremely important. An instrument like a guitar or drums will typically be much louder. They are often times very portable and light, making them easy to carry up or downstairs.
If youre worried about your child making too much noise and the noise just being too much, they can use headphones.
The headphone technology has come so far and having a digital piano with a headphone port is really useful. I recently talked about the best electric pianos in the world today. You can check it out at the link above.
Sometimes your child wont want people to hear them when theyre first starting because theyre embarrassed. Headphones are a simple, affordable solution.

How Do You Secure A Piano Keyboard To Stand
A piano keyboard stand typically has three legs, each with a rubber foot to protect your flooring. To secure the keyboard to the stand, there are two methods: felt strips or rubber pads.
Felt strips are the most popular way to secure a keyboard to a stand. They are inexpensive and easy to find. Most music stores sell them in packs of three or four. To use felt strips, simply peel off the adhesive backing and stick them to the bottom of your keyboard. Then, set the keyboard on the stand and press down lightly to secure it in place.
Rubber pads are another option for securing a keyboard to a stand. They provide a more sturdy grip than felt strips and are less likely to slip. Rubber pads are also easy to find and relatively inexpensive. Most music stores sell them in packs of four. To use rubber pads, simply peel off the adhesive backing and stick them to the bottom of your keyboard. Then, set the keyboard on the stand and press down lightly to secure it in place.
What Height Should A Piano Keyboard Be
Including the height of the pianist, the type of piano, and the acoustics of the room. Generally, however, the keyboard should be positioned so that the natural fall of the hands is from the wrist, not the elbow, and so that the fingers can strike the keys with a natural, even motion. For most people, this will mean that the keyboard is positioned slightly higher than waist level.

For those learning to play the piano, the challenge of learning to read music plus learning how to play the instrument can be a real turn off. Indeed, as a piano teacher of many years, Ive noticed this in many students – they begin very excited at the prospect of learning their favourite songs, but when we get into the intricacies of learning how to read music so that they can actually play their favourite songs, they get bored. A digital piano with light up keys may appear to solve this problem. But does it?
Ultimately, a digital piano or keyboard with light up keys can be a great option for a beginner. You may consider it as a very first instrument for someone who’s getting to grips with the piano.
However, it’s important to note that you may become reliant on it to learn new pieces, so it’s a good idea to get out of the habit of using light up keys eventually and moving on to a more advanced instrument. For beginners, it’s perfectly fine and may encourage you to keep playing more!

Sounds And Sound Quality
Keyboards often have a lot of different sounds or voices as they are normally called. This means that you can play it as if it were a different instrument, with sounds like organs, strings, and even brass or synths. Many of the keyboards on the list have loads of different sounds you can switch between.
At the $100 price point, youre not likely to find the highest quality sounds, but that isnt a problem, especially if you want a keyboard for beginners.
A cheap keyboard piano may have a lot of sounds, but to get a great sound engine then you may need to spend a little bit more. Some of the best digital piano options have been created with incredibly detailed simulations of the audio from acoustic pianos, which have been sampled to a very high level. They are also made to be velocity-sensitive, so get louder as you hit the keys harder.

They Can Invite Problems With Technique
Ive touched on this before when I was speaking about fingering, but my biggest bugbear with the digital piano with light up keys is that it can invite serious technical problems to creep into your playing.
Fingering notwithstanding, if youre not an experienced pianist with a solid idea of where to put your fingers and why, you can end up twisting and contorting your hands into extremely uncomfortable positions, and this can lead to things like carpal tunnel syndrome or repetitive strain injury if you do it too often. Save your hands, learn to read music and get a teacher!
I’m not saying don’t buy one. I’m saying buy one, but be aware of the limitations of relying on the light-up keys for too long. Wean yourself off it as soon as you’re able.
