Easy Claire de Lune: letter

Our classical pop take on Clair de Lune for teens will surely win over your older students, but just in case some need a little more convincing

Did you know that, in the movie Twilight, Clair de Lune is playing on Edwards sound system when Bella hits play?

Tell your teens that little tidbit of information and, not only will you be instantly cooler, but your students will be glued to the piano for the rest of the summer

And, while they are glued to the piano, some serious technical work will be taking place.

Todays piano solo is composed in the key of C major, using pop chords in the left hand. We specifically selected pop chords as they lend themselves to a unique left-hand pattern used in this tune that introduces inner voicing.

With that said, it is a very, very early introduction to inner voicing. Specifically, in this piece, the LH 5 holds the root of the chord while the thumb works independently on the top note.

While it seems simple to accomplish with LH only, this introduction to voicing creates a coordination challenge when playing hands together.

As your students explore this challenge, they will experience the thicker texture and increased melodic variety that comes with creating an inner voice.

A 61-key keyboard is an excellent choice for playing contemporary, pop, and rock music. This keyboard can also be used to listen to music from the 18th and 19th centuries. Clair De Lune On Piano: Finding Your Way Around The Keyboard

Before playing Clair de lune, we will first review the basics of piano by finding our way around a keyboard. If you already know the notes on the piano keyboard, you can skip to the next part.

Start by observing this diagram:

The name of the notes on a piano keyboard.

The picture above shows you on each key of a piano the note that is associated with it.

You can use the black keys to find your way around the keyboard. Indeed, unlike the white keys, the black keys do not follow each other in an identical way. There are two types of black key groups: groups of 2 and groups of 3.

These keys allow you to locate yourself on the piano. For example, if you are looking for the note G, you must first look at the groups of black keys and try to identify a group of 3. Once you have found it, press the white key located between the first and second black key of the group of 3: it is your G.

Practice recognizing the notes on the keyboard quickly and easily. This will help you learn to play the notes of Clair de lune on the piano more quickly during this tutorial.

Can You Play Any Song On A 61 Key Keyboard

How to Play “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy | HDpiano (Part 1) Piano Tutorial

A 61 key keyboard is a great instrument for beginners. It is small and portable, and you can play any song on it. The only downside is that it does not have as many keys as a piano, so you may not be able to play all the notes in a song.

Fur Elise can be played on a 61-key keyboard with the first two movements. The third and final movement necessitates at least 72 keys. You could also use an octave shifter or a keyboard with arranged versions. The third movement of Fur Else requires nearly all 88 Keys. If you have the octave shift function in the third movement of Fur Elise, youll need 76 keys or an octave shift in the fourth movement. Beginner pianists typically have 61-key keyboards, which are typically smaller and less powerful. If you want to learn to play the piano, youll need more keys or a special instrument that can shift octaves.

To play Beethovens Fur Elise, youll need an 88-key keyboard. If you want to do this, you can do it by using an electric piano or a MIDI keyboard connected to a DAW. Because of their size, digital pianos are much better than real acoustic pianos. If I wanted to buy a new MIDI keyboard, I would go with the Arturia 88 KeyLab MKII or this one. The keyboard has 61 keys, making it suitable for beginners as well as those who are unfamiliar with classical music. If you want a keyboard similar to a piano but want to learn classical music, an electric piano is a good option.

Clair De Lune Difficulty

As a piano piece Clair de lune is dream-like and at times ethereal. It floats weightlessly on a vision of enchantment.

Debussy plays with harmony in the piece like the impressionist painters did with light to create a musical landscape that has a compelling calmness and tranquillity that perhaps accounts for its lasting appeal. This brings one of the many challenges of Clair de lune. Unlike some of Debussys piano pieces, Clair de lune has textural transparency that requires the pianist to have an assured technique that allows for the clarity of the music not to be ruined.

Over pedaling in place of technique is what I am referring to. The apparent simplicity and delicacy of Clair de lune can easily give way to the impression that it is not technically demanding, it is just that the technical demands are not virtuosic as in some other Debussy works.

There are many arrangements of this classic piano piece that alter any number of aspects of the original music. What they do provide are more accessible versions of this beautiful music but often the compromise is a little too much for my taste. Debussy composed Clair de lune in the rich, warm key of D flat major. At a first glance, this in itself could be perceived as a difficulty, yet the key falls easily under the pianists fingers once the mind remembers the five flats of the key signature.
