Lean On Me By Bill Withers
Lean on Me, made popular by Bill Withers, made it to the top of the charts in 1972. The simple, stepping rhythm and logical progression of the major chords make it one of the easiest songs you will ever learn to play on the piano. Its earnest melody sounds just as amazing and inspiring on the piano as it does with a full band.
The verse of this song alternates between drawn-out notes and shorter rhythms using the same chords. Once you have the chords down on both hands, you will have almost all of the parts of this song mastered. Plus, the most iconic part is the verse with its friendly lyrics about leaning on each other when times are tough.
John Legend All Of Me
A lot of people want to play the piano just to learn this great song. The entire song uses the piano and can be transposed to an easier version for beginner players. The key for the piece is in A flat major, even though the verses sound like they could be written in F minor. The chord structure is simple as well so it makes for a great easy piano tune.
The bridge is where beginners may get caught because of the key transition from A flat major to B flat minor. This part is really short so dont worry too much about it. After this section, the music returns to repeating the chorus chord structure so its very much the same thing throughout the piece.
Ed Sheeran Thinking Out Loud
Ed Sheeran mainly uses guitar for his music which transposes well onto the piano. This tune was released in 2014 and plays just as well on the piano as it does on the guitar. You can hear the blues influence throughout the piece in the rhythm and overall styling.
You will be using a D major key here which is probably one of the easiest keys to play pop songs in. What makes it even easier is the harmonic structure that repeats which is a common technique used in pop songs. Starting out you will use D major chords, followed by inversions using F sharp.
Next up you will use G major and A major chord patterns in your left hand. The right begins with the melody starting on the F sharp key and then following a simple one-note pattern. The best way to learn the melody would be to find the sheet music for the piece so you can see exactly what notes are coming next.

Believer By Imagine Dragons
While this pop-rock song may not be the same without the incredible vocals by Imagine Dragons, Believer has a bold drum section that is fun to replicate on the piano. This song may sound a bit more complicated than it actually is to learn and play.
The drum part is a great way for you to learn how to play triplet rhythms on the piano. On the piano, the series of repetitive rhythms can sound mysterious and eerie like a movie soundtrack. Try working through one section at a time until you have the note changes memorized.

In the movie Frozen, this incredible power ballad marks a moment of transformation for Queen Elsa. She goes from feeling ashamed and isolated because of her magical abilities to realizing that theyre a strength to be proud of. This is a message that resonates with so many people, and the song became an absolute favorite the moment the film was released. Although Elsa was originally written as the villain in Frozen, the songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wanted to write a song exploring how Elsa felt about having to pretend to be a perfect princess even though she had a terrifying secret she had to hide. After the screenwriters heard the song they decided to make Elsa one of the heroes of the story and began rewriting the script. So, we have this song to thank for the story of Frozen, which turned out to be one of Disneys top animated films of all time.

Essential Skills Every Piano Player Should Know
So if youre just unboxed your new beginner keyboard or digital piano, what should you be looking for in the songs you learn first? Let’s look at a few of the core attributes that the songs we’ve picked will help you work on.
Hand/finger independenceLearning how to send different messages from your brain to different hands at the same time is key to making any serious advances as a keyboard player, so any song where the left hand plays something different to what the right hand is playing is going to be good exercise. Similarly, being able to play separate notes with each finger without getting them mixed up is important. The ability to press down each finger individually without the other fingers getting involved in proceedings is known as finger independence. Songs that feature melodies good for practising this will thus be near the top of your list when looking for tunes to expand your repertoire.
ScalesEveryone knows that scales are an important part of the keyboard learning process, but practising them isn’t the most exciting thing on earth. How much cooler would it be if you were able to incorporate scales into the context of playing an actual song? So try looking for songs whose melodies are made up of runs up and down the major or minor scales to make practising them a bit less of a chore.
